Love stationery, cute gifts, fun finds, and helping people discover something they didn't know they needed? Zakka Joy is looking for a friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic Part-Time Retail Associate to join our team!

Zakka Joy is an independent gift and lifestyle shop in Beacon, NY, filled with unique stationery, Japanese goodies, designer art toys, fun accessories, housewares, and lots of little things that inspire smiles. We've been bringing fun finds to our customers since 2007, both in-store and online.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in keeping a store looking great, and is happy to pitch in wherever needed. We're heading into our busiest season, so we're hoping to find someone who can join us soon, help with holiday shopping, and potentially continue with us beyond the season.

  • Available position: Part-time Retail Associate
  • Location: Zakka Joy, Beacon, NY
  • Schedule: Flexible part-time schedule, with additional hours potentially available during the holiday season. Weekend availability is important.
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Employment outlook: Seasonal workload with the possibility of continued part-time employment based on business needs and mutual fit.
  • Pay: Starts at $20/hour | Based on experience | Paid time off

Responsibilities include:

  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using our point-of-sale system
  • Greet customers, assist with their shopping needs, and provide product recommendations
  • Maintain a clean and organized store, including restocking shelves and keeping merchandise displays neat and attractive
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving and organizing merchandise shipments
  • Make decisions and work independently
  • Packing and shipping of online orders
  • Occasional gift wrapping
  • Carrying overstock to/from our stockroom and prepping packing materials for recycling

Qualities we are looking for:

  • Excellent multi-tasking: We get really busy and hope to-do lists don't scare you
  • Energy: We have a lot going on almost all the time and need some pep in your step
  • Enthusiasm: Smiles are kind of our thing!
  • Organizational skills: We have a massive inventory to maintain
  • Communication skills: Let's talk about it
  • Must be over 18
  • Need to be able to lift boxes weighing over 20 pounds
  • Weekend availability: That's when we are busiest

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with counting money, and giving change to customers
  • A plus if you love our product selection
  • Big plus if you are a stationery nerd, and can spell the word stationery
  • Huge plus if you like setting up retail displays
  • And of course, someone that vibes with current staff
