Colorverse Danoje Festival (#48) is a light, minty green ink from the Korea Special Ink collection. It has low shading, no sheen or shimmer, and an average flow. On Rhodia paper, it dries in about 40 seconds with a medium nib. Made in Korea.
This ink is inspired by the Gangneung Danoje Festival, a nationally designated Intangible Cultural Asset and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Dano is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month and is one of Korea’s four major traditional holidays, alongside Seollal, Chuseok, and Dongji. The name “Dano” comes from “Dan,” meaning beginning, and “O,” referring to the fifth day.
The color draws from traditional ceremonial clothing and the aristocratic mask dance drama Gwanno, one of the festival’s featured performances. The ink has a clear, almost transparent quality, echoing the lightweight coats worn by aristocrats during the Joseon Dynasty. When first laid down, it leans blue-green, then warms as it dries into a fresh mint tone. Because it’s on the thinner side, it really shines with broader nibs.
